Wales is a land of enchanting landscapes, ancient castles and extensive footpaths. In fact, many avid outdoorsy people consider this to be a hiker’s paradise. Indeed, walking holidays in Wales are in a class of their own. But with so many trails to explore, how do you find the one that is best suited to your interests and ability level?
We believe we have just the answer. Hooked on Walking is a family owned company based in the UK, and we have been helping our clients organise walking holidays in Wales for many years now. We know the terrain; we know the people, and perhaps most importantly, we understand what types of experiences holidaymakers are looking for when they set out on a walking tour.
On this page, you’ll find information about self-guided walking holidays in Wales. Currently, we focus on a spectacular route through Pembrokeshire National Park. However, we’re constantly on the lookout for other once-in-a-lifetime experiences for hikers, and we’ll add new destinations and routes as we develop them. In the future, we hope to have routes that involve walking in North Wales as well.
Watching Wildlife While Hiking Wales
Hooked on Walking’s Wales walking holidays will lead you through Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, which is the only coastal national park in the UK. Wildlife abounds in this region. You’ll have the opportunity to see porpoises, dolphins and small whales cresting through the surface of the ocean.
Birdwatching is also a popular pastime in Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The islands and sea cliffs in this part of the country host enormous populations of sea birds. You may also see colonies seals at the base of some of these cliffs. You’ll be glad you brought your binoculars with you on this trip.
You’ll also have the chance to enjoy extra outings and excursions while walking in Wales. And some of these excursions involve even more wildlife watching. For example, when you walk around St David’s Peninsula for views of the bird sanctuary on Ramsey Island, you can also continue on to the docks for an inflatable speed boat ride to actually visit the island. Your knowledgeable guide for this excursion will tell you all about the birds, seals and sea lions that make their home here.
Walking in South Wales with the Experts
All of our Welsh trekking tours are available as self-guided tours, but you’ll be armed with a wealth of information directly from the experts. We have spent a lot of time researching walking holidays in Wales on the coastal path. And we’ve also walked this path ourselves. This allows us to create detailed itineraries that let you know precisely where you’ll be and what attractions you can enjoy each step of the way.
We’ll also take care of your accommodation along the way, reserving your rooms and even arranging to have your luggage transferred from one lodge to the next while you’re out there exploring the countryside.
