Locally Steve and Maria did an excellent job and were very thoughtful, making sure we knew what to see in each place and that there was somewhere for us to eat each night given how early it was in the season. We really could not fault the walks , routes and accommodation , a wonderful holiday. (Feb 2017)
Our Segovia walking holiday was brilliant, superbly organised with no problems. I particularly liked the variety and quality of the hotels. It is difficult to choose a ‘best’ because they were all of a high standard and so individual. Rural Spain was a revelation, even if we struggled because we speak no Spanish! The walking maps and instructions were good and we only put a foot slightly out of place once. I am experienced with that, though. Although it was the last week of October we hit a very sunny spell and wore shorts and sleeveless tops every day. For me the only problem was not being able to get a cooked meal until 9pm. After a walk this is too late, but of course I understand that this is the Spanish way of life.
We had prefaced the trip with 4 days in Madrid, and this was an excellent decision, a bit of culture and then the fast train to Segovia. (Oct 2016)
Our Chestnut and Wine walking trip through Sudtirol was superb. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Accommodation was satisfactory and sometimes, eg the Gruener Baum in Brixen, superb. Thanks so much!!! My friend and I have already determined to take a walking trip yearly, so you’ll be hearing from us again! (Sep 2016)
The food on this trip was outstanding. The restaurant opposite connected to the hotel in Perros Guirec was excellent. So was the one opposite the hotel in Tregastel. All the taxi arrangements worked perfectly. We arrived early in Trebeurden so phoned the taxi company to reschedule the pickup. Taxi arrived within 15 minutes. On the walk we got a bit lost near Saint Uzec’s menhir. Generally, the map instructions worked well. (Sep 2016)
Overall, the trip was fabulous…the food and hospitality (for the most part) outstanding, the scenery spectacular and the walks (and cave tours) most enjoyable. Thank you (Sep 2016)
This was a interesting area to explore as the towns are so ancient with customs that are very different from our own. (Aug 2016)
Ground support were very good. We had bad weather for the walk to Urriellu hut so decided to stay in Sotres and do a circular walk. They sorted it all out and we just paid the difference on our return to Arenas, a lovely walk. La Perdiz in Sotres was very good for us (room with a balcony and very responsive owners). Great week, for which we thank you very much. (Aug 2016)
We loved the Loire Valley, the chateau and the castles. The accommodations were generally excellent and the included meals fabulous. (June 2016)
Thanks for arranging the trip with such short notice. I had a great time! I will definitely recommend you to friends and I hope to contact you again for another trip. (July 2016)
Really enjoyed trip for sure. It was really cool … trip, nature, villages … Bye and thanks again for the quick help when we lost the maps and route instructions at the castle. (July 2016)
We all had a great time. The tour is really great value and the route is very interesting . The hospitality at all stops was excellent. Thanks to you folks and Anna your local lady for organising this for us . (July 2016)
I was a happy participant in the Piedmont Walking Tour from Alba to Cortemilla. We have done yearly hiking trips in Europe for a couple of decades now – beginning when I was a young fellow in my mid 60s. While our holidays used to involve higher daily mileages and distances and heavier packs I now find that I prefer to have the planning and luggage transfers done by someone else. Thank you for being that “someone.” Everything about the tour went well with no hitches at all. The lodgings were all excellent, the service fine, and the food and wine frequently outstanding. We especially enjoyed the Agriturismos. You deserve special compliments on the quality of your Route/Maps. They’re probably the best of those of any of your European competitors that we have experienced. We’re now beginning to consider one or both of your Slovenian hiking trips for 2017. (May 2016)
Overall we had a great experience. The accommodations were wonderful and very friendly. The other out-of-pocket expenses were very reasonable. I appreciated the detailed route books. Overall very happy and we would book again with you. I’m already looking at packages for next summer. (June 2016)
We have just arrived home tonight after a great holiday. Everything worked out really well. Our accommodation was excellent & we had some great walks. There was one day where we had a little difficulty with the instructions & we would be happy to provide details if you want them ( which might help others). Otherwise everything was great. We will put up some positive reviews on line. The three hotels were particularly good, especially Sotres Hotel. (June 2016)
We will fill out the survey, but I wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed the trip. We were very impressed by the arrangements and the walking instructions (noticed a couple of small discrepancies, which we will specify in the survey). We’ve done self-guided trips with other companies and feel that this one was the best overall. Thank you (May 2016)
There could have been a bit more information on the website, pictures of the accommodation. Tour material was good, GPS fantastic. But some of the paths were a little overgrown, local guides who were extremely. The remoteness of the accommodation didn’t quite come across, beautiful but expecting a village but all was great (June 16)
Had a great holiday. Appreciate all you did for us. Would suggest your company to other walkers. (April 2016)
Thank you for organising our walking holiday in Catalunya. The GPS worked perfectly, and we enjoyed getting to know some of this beautiful region. All the overnight stops were excellent. We especially liked the Hostalet de la Merceria, where Lluïsa made two wet and muddy walkers very welcome with a pot of tea and cakes, and Theresa’s wonderful cooking and friendly family at Hostel Cal Pla, and but all our accommodation was very good. (April 2016)
Just wanted to say a massive THANKS for a fantastic walking tour recently. We did the “Sound of music” Salzkammergut 10 day self-guided trip, and it was so enjoyable!
Thank you for organising everything so well for us. The accommodation, meals and support material/info was excellent. We had the time of our lives, and will definitely recommend your company to others. (Sep 2015)
Overall, we had a very good trip to Lago di Como. We loved Menaggio and thought it was a perfect spot from which to make trips and we really enjoyed being in one place for a good number of days. The accommodation was very good in both cases, though our room at Menaggio was above a restaurant and things didn’t quieten down until late in the evenings. The hotel Garni Corona in Porlezza had a very good breakfast. Your guide book recommended “strong walking boots”. We took stout walking shoes which coped with most terrain but weren’t really good enough for the stone paved paths. We should have paid more attention to your advice. Thank you again (June 2015)
Just to say I thoroughly enjoyed my holiday.
Everything was well organised and the walks were so beautiful and Karin our guide was very knowledgeable and very good to us. It was a wonderful holiday that I’ll remember for a long time.
Thank you for all your help too. Answering all my questions before we left and assisting in general.
Please let me know of any similar holidays you may be running in 2016. (July 2015)
Excellent selection- scenery, landscape diversity and options for shorter/longer walks all worked well. I particularly enjoyed the 4 routes in the Tuscan Appenines. The best accommodation was La Letizia in Chuisi della Verna- lovely family run place, and food fresh and delicious.
We were blessed in the main with mild weather for this time of year in Italy. I would not have wanted it to be any hotter, particularly as many of the transfer arrangements meant that you were limited in being able to start the walks earlier than 9 am.
Overall, it was a great week, very good value and I would highly recommend your company to others. (June 2015)
Had a wonderful holiday. We were very impressed with the guides and maps. The car service between walk locations worked out beautifully. (May 2015)
Our large group really enjoy the trip . We found all three hotels very comfortable, one minor hiccup at Sant Elene – when the hotel provided a double bed for two single men. However this was soon remedied with an extra single bed when we asked. All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was good and plentiful and the packed lunches more than adequate. Most of us bought one to share between two. (May 2015)
I cannot begin to thank you enough for this fabulous journey. After 28kms of walking today, I was pleasantly surprised and extremely grateful to find such wonderful accommodation with a jacuzzi bath. The whole trip has been fantastic and we have greatly appreciated the detailed maps with photographs. (May 2015)
Lovely holiday. Overall the experience was very good and we would book again. (April 2015)
I started the trip on the first day advertised, which was April 1. Unfortunately, there was still too much snow in the mountains to complete the hike on the second day, as we couldn’t find the trail. This was my second trip with Hooked on Walking and I enjoyed myself immensely–thank you. (April 2015)
The holiday was excellent of the many done with Hooked on Walling probably the best we’ve had – a format that would be a good guide of how to do it! It was excellent value for money. The Hotels were all generally very good. In some cases breakfast was a bit meagre, but the rooms were excellent. We normally go in September, but I thought September would be too hot, and October was out as the budge airlines only go in the summer. We delayed the trip until the second week of May to make sure the Samaria Gorge was open. The hot weather came during our week, wan it was hotter than we would have liked. However we achieved everything we aimed for. Also, the Samaria Gorge was closed the week we came back. (May 2015)
Just felt I had to email you to say how much we enjoyed our walking holiday in the Picos mountains. The accommodations at both hotels Sotres and la Rivera were excellent, with very attentive and warm, friendly staff. There was a good balance of four evening meals at Hotel Sotres and at the mountain refuge, and three nights where we were able to venture out and try local cuisine at tapas bars and restaurants, of which there were plenty to choose from. The food was fabulous!
We were all in awe of the stunning and dramatic scenery and also the amount of wildlife and livestock we shared our paths with (cows, sheep and goats). How friendly are those cows!
This is our third self guided walking holiday through your company and we have experienced nothing but excellence in your choice of accommodations and routes for walking that takes us to such beautiful and remote parts of both Spain and Italy that we would never have gone to or even considered.
Great hotel and food, a beautiful island which made the holiday unforgettable!
The hotels–with one exception–were outstanding. And the one exception–the Weinhotel Wachau in Spitz–was fine. It just didn’t measure up to the others in terms of charm and location. The hotel breakfasts were all exceptional and helped us keep food costs down in this very expensive part of the world. The baggage transfer service was efficient and reliable. The concept of the walking tour and the routes selected were outstanding. We were “hooked” from the first hour of the first walk. Communications with your company prior to the trip were excellent. Replies to our queries came promptly and were clear and accurate.
Overall all of us really enjoyed the week, and we would like you to contact your local support person, and express our thanks to him for his support, and let the hotels and restaurants know that we found the accommodation excellent, and the food and wine superb. Also, everyone was very welcoming, and the receptionist in the Hotel Eucalyptus was particularly helpful.
Just want to let you know that the tour was fantastic – better than I was expecting. Such beautiful scenery, and we were really looked after by our guides. I would recommend this tour (and have been) to everyone!
All in all, we very much enjoyed our trip and felt it was well run. Thank you. We would certainly recommend your organisation and potentially use your trips another time
Simply holiday was fantastic, upgrade accommodation was perfect it all ways
Really enjoyed this trip. Guides were excellent. Food and accommodation also excellent.
Just returned yesterday from our walking trip to Bavaria…..very lucky with the weather! we arrived in heavy rain and left in heavy rain but had a complete week of sunshine in between, the only bit of summer the area has had so far! we completed all the walks, had a great time and the area is really lovely.
As you can see from the above ratings we have given – perfect 10’s, our holiday was an outstanding success and thoroughly enjoyed by all eight of us! Thank you.
Excellent holiday Steve very professional and organised, will be booking another walking holiday in the future as really enjoyed the experience.
I just completed your survey. The holiday was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Hugh was great and very helpful. The booking procedure was seem less and your correspondence first class.
A wonderful week! Some of the directions we puzzled over at first, but most of the time we found our way without confusion–and, of course, once we had them figured out, all seemed simple and straightforward. One minor comment was one of the men at the desk in the Aris Hotel told us we were too old to walk to Elafonisos and then back to Paleochora. As a woman, I was particularly insulted. (Those twenty kilometres took us through some of the easiest terrain of the week.) In general, however, we were met with such courtesy and helpfulness at each stopping place, and thoroughly enjoyed those experiences.
We had a great time on our hike and thought the accommodations you booked for us were great. All were centrally located with friendly staffs. Originally I thought the hiking directions were too detailed, but quickly found out the lack of trail markers in Italy necessitate detailed directions. We enjoyed all of the hikes, especially having the ability to visit wineries along the way. The wildness of some of the areas was also appreciated since we anticipated only rolling hills with olive trees, vineyards, and villas.
A great holiday, booking process went smoothly. The hotel in Agerola was more basic than in Naples but staff were very friendly. It seemed that Amalfi could also be used as a base for this holiday, and then there would be more choice of hotels although good value. Route maps were generally ok but indications of distances would have been helpful (rather than just times). Overall though it was a great holiday – nice mix of history and walking.
Just a short note to say that we all had a super time, and really enjoyed our stay in the Los Andes. This was mainly due to the efforts of all the staff at the hotel, and of course Pier8 who gave a very efficient support (the weather helped quite a bit, also of course). It was great to walk out of the airport on the 10th and see my name held up on a big piece of paper.
Just to feedback from our recent holiday, we enjoyed it very much, and were very impressed by the service given by Steve and Maria. They were very efficient and attentive to our needs and responsive to feedback given.
Great holiday, both hotels were wonderful, we had a few difficulties on the route but never got lost. Superb landscapes. Hope to holiday with you again.
On the walk we saw some spectacular scenery although the Piano Grande was behind in its flowering due to a cold Spring. The best flowers we saw were on Monte Coscerno. On the day of the walk from Gavelli to Monte Coscerno, the weather looked ominous with dark clouds and the mountain was fogged in as we drove past it. Our driver Marco Fanti advised us to come on to Poggiodomo with the baggage, and to walk up the mountain from the agroturismo so we would know how to get back in case things got worse. It was lovely, although it did indeed pour with rain, and we stopped in a big meadow shy of the summit. Rather than going to Usigni the next day, we repeated the mountain walk the next day and were rewarded with sunshine. Very high up we found asphodels, plus umpteen types of daisy, a type of white crocus and a drooping tulip beside the asphodels. We went all the way to the antenna building. The hotels were good and the drivers really helpful. This is such rewarding scenery. I hope you have many happy hikers.
We both really enjoyed the week with the significant challenges. Weather wise, it was a mixed bag, but negatives can be positives! There was light morning drizzle some days which cleared to fine afternoons. The temperatures in the low 20’s were actually perfect for the amount of walking and hilly trekking that was required. Any hotter or full sun would have made for picture perfect vistas, but arduous on the energy levels. Vistas were sometimes cloud bound, but no fog to speak of. Hotels were very good in particular Hotel Flamingo with a wonderful buffet dinner.
Wonderful holiday, local support staff wonderful, Tullia provide quick help when we experienced a few problems one day. For certain great value for money holiday with nice unique very Italian accommodation
With my sister and 2 Norwegian friends we returned on May 27 from our 14 nights in Spain, St -James tour. The trip was overall very good and your local handler did a great job. Our luggage was always on time and all accommodations were very, very good… Overall, we were very satisfied with the services we received and I would not hesitate to use Hooked on Walking services again.
We’ve just got back from our Italian holiday and wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed it. The Hotel Barracuda on Elba was very good – friendly and helpful staff, efficient service, good food. The room we had was very spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed the walking – the trails were mostly well marked and your route instructions were good. The Hotel Ariston in Pisa was in a great location – we sat having breakfast looking out at the leaning tower. The breakfast was fairly minimal, even for a continental breakfast. The rooms were reasonably clean and comfortable. We would certainly recommend the Elba holiday to anyone who enjoys walking in beautiful scenery. We would also recommend your company for good organisation and good service. We are already thinking about where to go next and we will be looking again at your website.
I just wanted to thank you for our guided walking tour in Andalucia with Terry and Lisa. I have with me the feedback form that you sent, but as we have another two months travelling in Europe, and posting letters is not a simple matter, I know I won’t get round to filling it in and mailing it to you. However, I would like you to know that everything was of the highest standard. I have found you and your organisation very easy to deal with. I think your tour was very good value, and I cannot speak highly enough of the service provided by Terry and Lisa. They are quite fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed their company as well as appreciated how well everything was organised. We also really enjoyed staying at La Seguiriya. Paco and Lola provide a lovely warm welcome and delicious food, and their hotel is quite charming.
Thanks for a great holiday. The Hotels were generally very good, and served good food, and the staff were very helpful. The Agent, Maria, was excellent. Also, all the support services – taxis, baggage transfer etc, all were very good, punctual, and flexible where necessary. I would certainly recommend the whole deal to everyone and anyone I meet as an excellent good value and enjoyable break.
Just wanted to let you know we had a great time following your instructions through the Loire Valley. The weather could’ve cooperated more – it was rainy, hot and humid every day – but we didn’t let it dampen our spirits! Our luggage was transported and waiting for us upon our arrival every time — good job! We enjoyed most of the hotels you put us in. At Le Blason, Amboise, Damien, the fellow at the front desk was exceptionally helpful and accommodating. Breakfast was fine and our rooms were very interesting. It was fun to stay in a 14C building! Le Relais de Chenonceaux was also ok. It should be mentioned that while dinner was great and the breakfast food was quite good (probably the best selection we had all week).
Hotel des Chateaux de la Loire in Tours was very nice; breakfast was good and again, the staff was very accommodating. They suggested and made us reservations at an excellent restaurant for us our first night there. The Hotel des Chateau in Azay de Rideau was lovely and the food was good. Unfortunately we had to leave prior to breakfast to catch a train, but the proprietor gave some of us coffee before we left. He also came and picked up a couple from the town the day before who were too exhausted to walk to the hotel.
Just line to express our thanks for the trip and to give you a bit of feedback. The walk descriptions were accurate enough for us to follow quite easily. The two hotels we stayed in, H2C and the Gentile, were excellent. Especially the Gentile as they could not do enough for us in every way. Thanks again for a great trip, we all enjoyed ourselves immensely.
A great holiday, tour manager polite, punctual, informative route notes were good. A great trip with great memories, I may bring my wife next time.
Another great adventure through your company! We are three for three visiting the Romanian Monasteries, Green Coast of Spain, and now the Julian Alps of Slovenia. The group had a wonderful time walking in parts of the alpine ridge lines and along the majestic lakes of Bled and Bohinj. Thanks for your assistance in making this trip happen.
Hi Sammie……….we are home from our vacation (Cotes Du Rhone ), and we just wanted to give you a bit of feedback. We had a wonderful time. The weather was fantastic, the hotels were great, and our luggage always arrived ahead of us!
I am finally back from my trip to eastern Europe. I wanted to let you know that we really enjoyed the Pained Monasteries walk. We especially enjoyed the days we walked from one town to the next. The maps and directions were adequate and got us to the next destination without getting lost. Staying at the Punta Monastery is one we won’t forget. It was great. Casa Cazac Felicia was the most enjoyable of all the places we stayed. The family can’t do enough for their guests and Felicia’s cooking was the best we had in Romania. Thankfully we could speak a little French, so we could converse somewhat. Casa Lina was a disappointment after Casa Cazac Felicia. The hotel is a little rickety, mainly the stairs and balconies. The food there was good. Romania is a beautiful country with warm and friendly people, very few tourists. We loved it.
We walked the Great Glen Way in Scotland , all the photo instructions are in the correct order, all the B&B’s were perfect especially Craigard House, Dreamweavers and Craik na Dav. Luggage service was superb . Thanks again for a wonderful holiday.
Just thought we would write to let you know that we thoroughly enjoyed our walking holiday in Tenerife. The hotels were all excellent, but we particularly enjoyed the friendly, idiosyncratic, and welcoming atmosphere of the hotel in Orotava (Alhambra?). The walks were varied and interesting, and we were able to choose between an easier alternative if we felt the need for a rest day.
Just a short email to let you know that we thoroughly enjoyed our walking holiday. The weather was perfect and all the arrangements went off without a hitch. We liked all the hotels, especially the Tirolonhof, with the Jagerhof in Mittenwald being our least favourite. The route instructions proved very helpful indeed. We found the scenery stunning and loved the fact that every couple of hours there would be a chance to have a cup of tea and a toilet stop.
I hope this email finds you well. Everyone has arrived safely back home and are thrilled with their experience. We had a wonderful time and really enjoyed the location-very unique and exquisite landscape. All in all the trip went seamlessly. Great hotels, warm reception, and wonderful cuisine (the wine and beer was nice also).
Fantastic tour , we would do it again! Super scenery, great route instructions and general information.
The holiday had fabulous coastal views, the variety of terrain/countryside we walked through, the opportunity to spend time in places that were a true reflection of life in the area rather than a tourist view, the great people at the tour company. If we had to pick one thing, which is near to impossible as the whole experience was fabulous; maybe the sight of lone local fishermen way out on the tips of horrendously dangerous looking rocks with waves crashing up to them will be a lasting memory and the sound of cow bells. This walk added a whole extra dimension to our holiday in Portugal, we feel our understanding of the people and their lives, especially in the Alentejo area, is so much more realistic than it would have been if we had just done the usual tourist destinations without this being part of.
We returned to Australia from France a couple of days ago, and I wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our Loire Valley walking tour. The weather was absolutely perfect, so thank you for that. Seriously though our whole six day walk went like clockwork. The hotels were very comfortable and each one had its own special charm. The three dinners that were part of the package were superb, especially the one at Langeais. The service by the taxi drivers was always very efficient and courteous and, finally, the maps and instructions provided were very thorough and detailed. There was only one small section that needed updating and I pointed that out in the survey I returned before leaving France.
After not having done any walking for 14 months, it was a bit difficult to get started and the after first day we arrived in Cortona with very stiff muscles after coming down the hill. After that, we seemed to get fitter and every day the walking seemed easier. Everything worked out very well. Giovanni, the local guy in Arrezo was most welcoming and the hotels were all fine. The Capprici de Merion in Tuoro definitely took first prize, the Marzocco in Montepulciano last (we were sure the old lady who ran the place laughed when she put us in the furthest room on the top floor without a lift because we had the heaviest bag!). The four dinners were also a real event, especially the Gambe di Gatto (also in Montepulciano). The young couple who run the place really do their best to showcase the local wine, bread, olive oil and food! Pienza was our favourite town. The route description were very clear. We really enjoyed the walk, the luggage transfers worked well and every day the cases would be waiting for us.
We have returned from Romania! What a terrific trip and a remarkable location. Without a doubt I will offer this trip again in the near future. Overall, we had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the walks and the Painted Monasteries. Thanks again for all your assistance.
I just wanted to let you know that we have just returned from our holiday in Como and to say what a fantastic time we had. The maps and directions were easy to follow and the walks were fantastic (we followed the harder walks). The highlight of our holiday was staying at Locanda Mose with Giovanni and his wife. They were extremely welcoming, friendly and she is a great cook, knowing exactly what walkers need.
Just back from the Tuscany Dream and a few days in Rome. We just thought we ought to let you know how great the walking were, we absolutely loved it. The holiday gave us a real variety of so many things – hotels, food, drink and landscapes. The hotels, although all different, were excellent – the highlight had to be the one at Touro sul Trasimeno (Capriccii dei Meirion) such peace and tranquility. The one at Bagno Vignoni was quite spectacular, a 16th century B&B!! For food it had to be the gastronomic experience of Il Gigglio in Montalcino. We were very lucky with the weather, hot but not too hot, plenty of shade and no rain – perfect. Although, towards the end of the walk we did see some dark clouds, we managed to avoid the rain and any breeze was more than welcome. The directions were excellent.
