Tour Details

Join us on our walking holidays in Tenerife, and enjoy the wonderful all-year-round climate. Tenerife is part of the seven Canary Islands located off the African coast, it is also the largest of the group of Canary Islands.

Walking in Tenerife is an experience in itself, as to the south of the peak the landscape is very barren and desert-like, it is where the majority of the beach lovers head for. To the north of the Mount Tiede, the landscape is totally different, forests, green vegetation and wonderful scenery.

Our 7 night Tenerife itinerary which is graded as a level 2-3 hiking vacation on Tenerife explores all the wonderful regions on the Island. Your walking holiday on Tenerife will show you the nice green parts as well as the barren red stoned Mount Tiede region.

The Canary Islands are part of Spain, you can find other walking holidays in Spain on our Spain country page.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Orotava.

On arrival in Tenerife, you pick up your rental car (not included, must book separately) and drive to the first accommodation in the north of the Island. You stay in a small welcoming hotel in La Orotava with its lovely historical quarter and lively Plaza de la Constitución. If you get to Orotava early in the day, you’ll have time take a stroll along the steep and narrow lanes to get better acquainted with your surroundings. 1.5 hours.

Day 2Orotava Valley 13.5 or 10km. 600 or 450m ascent/descent. 5.5 or 4.5 hrs.

After a short drive to the village of Aguamansa, here you will enjoy your first of many Tenerife walks we have to offer.  On this circular walk, you shall enjoy scenes of lush vegetation as you walk through the Valle de Orotava. In clear weather, you will have unforgettable views of the valley and El Teide. During the walk you shall experience wonderful views and will have a few options to extend the walk should you wish.

Day 3Onward to Garachico 8 to 11km. 400 to 650m ascent/descent. 3.5 to 4.5 hrs.

First, you will drive to Garachico where you shall find your next accommodation. Again it is a lovely drive through lush countryside found in the area of Tenerife. Once you arrive you can choose between a few walk options as you explore the hilly terrain near Punta de Teno, a true paradise on Tenerife’s westernmost cape. Of course, you can also enjoy a rest day and relax on the beach.

Day 4the Masca Gorge 5.5 or 11km. ascent 0m or 600m, descent 600m. 2.5 or 6 hrs.

On today’s walk you can see the stunning gorge, “el Barranco de Masca”, and also the chance to visit the village of Masca. There is 2 masca walk to choose from: a one-way route with a return by boat or a there-and-back walk along the gorge. If you’re not a fan of sheer drops, you can opt to do one of yesterday’s routes.

Day 5Circular walks from Las Cañadas del Teide 1.5 hrs by car. 6 or 10km. 250 or 600m ascent/descent. 3 or 5 hrs.

This morning you drive 1.5 hours, from Garachico to your next accommodation: El Parador de las Cañadas, situated at the base of El Teide volcano. The rest of the day will be spent enjoying the impressive surroundings with 2 walks to choose from: a short, circular walk around the Roques de Garcia (3 hours), or a more demanding yet rewarding ascent to Guajara, the second highest peak on Tenerife (5 hours).

Day 6 From Las Cañadas to La Laguna 4 or 5km. 50m ascent/descent. 2hrs.

After breakfast, you can get better acquainted with El Pico del Teide, by wandering through the bizarre landscape of Las Cañadas. Or you can do one of the routes from yesterday, or opt for a stroll around Santa Cruz or La Laguna.

Day 7Northern Tenerife 9 or 11km. 620 or 440m in ascent/descent. 3 or 4,5 hrs.

Again you can choose from several routes after you have driven to the north side of the island. Both walking and driving itineraries offer lovely views, where you have a choice of routes to explore what some consider to be the prettiest part of Tenerife, with its coastal footpaths, deep ravines and picturesque white farming villages.

Day 8Departure

After breakfast, you drive back to the airport and depart.
