From the deep blue seas lapping the Adriatic coastline to the rugged mountains which helped to give the sovereign state its name (Black Mountain), this is a country of outstanding natural beauty. A walking holiday in Montenegro is the perfect way to explore the country’s historic towns and cities, wild and beautiful national parks, remote nature trails and ancient fortified ports. Our main Montenegro walking route gives you the chance to sample the local cuisine, take in some stunning coastal views, explore crumbling fortifications that were built at the height of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and see the architectural delights of Cetinje, the historic Royal Capital.
Following in Royal Footsteps
The King Petar Footsteps itinerary is our premier Montenegro walk. After a short transfer from Dubrovnik, the journey starts at the port of Tivat where King Petar II’s ships would have been docked in the 1800s and finishes in the coastal town of Budva, where his winter court was situated. Along the way you can explore Cetinje, the home of his summer palace, and many other interesting places, including the village of Njegusi, the birthplace of both King Petar II as well as his uncle and predecessor, King Petar I. To make sure that you have plenty of time to explore everything this beautiful country has to offer, the itinerary is spread over a week and includes overnight stays in a selection of charming hotels and pensions along the way.
