Why Walking Is Good For You – Lets Get Outdoors

Homepage > Why Walking Is Good For You – Lets Get Outdoors

It is a well-known fact that walking is good for you. You don’t have to get outdoors for hours at a time. Even just 30 minutes a day can do wonders for your body. So why not do more and get your boots on and get outside and explore some beautiful countries on your very own walking holiday.

Even if you don’t think you’re not quite ready for a walking holiday, you don’t have to travel to the countryside for great walks. Many towns and cities have some great walks available for you to enjoy. Here are our top reasons why walking is good for you.

Why Walking Is Good For You

It Makes You Happy

Walking is known to make your mood happier. After a stressful day at work, a short walk somewhere could really help clear your mind. If you go for a walk your body releases endorphins, which then, in turn, makes you feel happier. It can also relieve stress and anxiety.

Walking is Free

Walking is free which means if you have a limited budget it’s a great way to keep fit without the expensive gym membership. You could join a local walking group and meet new like-minded people. This, in turn, means you could make new friends which will improve your health as you are getting out and have other people there to cheer you on.

Reduce the Risk of Chronic Illnesses

According to the NHS, going out on regular walks can reduce the risk of chronic illnesses like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and stroke. Which is why we think you should try walking.

Get the Family Involved

Spending that much-needed quality time with the family is bound to make you happier and healthier. Our boys love getting outdoors and running about. Getting your kids involved in hiking from a young age is then in the long term make their lives healthier.

Makes You Healthier

We all want to live a long happy life, which if walking can make you healthier then you should give it a try. Walking is gentle and can help you lose weight (if you need too). It can also help strengthen, tone and shape your body. Once you get used to getting out and walking you can easily add to the intensity by walking uphill, walking for longer, changing the speed that you walk it.

Walking gives you many options to try it out, its free and can benefit your health in so many ways. Check out the NHS website for more information on starting out walking.
