Welcome to Hooked on Walking Holidays and our walking holidays in Italy. This particular hiking vacation in Italy is in the Italian region of Liguria, the area on the French / Italian border near the sea. At this point the Alps descend to the sea and our level 3 self guided walking tour shall take you from the mountains in a westerly direction to the sea close to the French border at Ventimiglia.

Day 1 Arrive in Montalto Ligure

Day 2 Montalto Ligure Round Walk via Passo di Vena 7.5 miles 12 km. Route length to and from Passo di Vena: 8.5 km Duration 3.5 to 5 hours up/down 800/800m
Today a tough climb through woods, through small fields and over a scrub covered mountainside. The mule track are well marked and, if in doubt, you follow the red arrows. From the top you walk underneath the ridge over a cattle path to the chapel on the Passo di Tavole and then descent, sometimes steeply, down back to Montalto.

Day 3 Walk From Montalto Ligure to Molini di Triora 11.8 miles 19 km 7 to 8 hours up/down 900/750m.
This route is made up of a series of old and 'forgotten' paths. The paths are sometimes hard to find but with some extra attention for the route description and the fixed markings, this will pose no problem. Challenging but beautiful!

Day 4 From Molini di Triora to Colle Langan or Palazzo del Maggiore 10 miles 16 km 7.5 hours up/down 900/800m
The route leads along narrow forest trails and slightly wider stony paths up the mountain with some tough climbs and rewarding, breathtaking views.

Day 5 Round walk from Palazzo del Maggiore to Pigna 10 miles 16km 750m up/down 5.5 hours.
For most of todays walk you shall have the village of Castel Vittoriain in your sight, first from above and then from below as you circle back to Pigna.

Day 6 Tiglio e la Rosa to Vinazza 9.1 miles 15.6Km 800/1000m up/down 6.5 hours.
Today a mixture of Stoney paths and some tarmac roads and you continue on your travels west in the mountains.

Day 7 Round walk from Vinazza via Apricale and Perinaldo 9.8 miles 15.9 km 750m up/down 7 hours.
A varied walk today withs several ups and downs on good trails, mountain paths and a short section on a minor road.

Day 8 Dolceacqua to Ventimiglia 8.6 miles 13.7km 450/500m up/down 5 hours.
The last section of your walk takes you from the mountains to the sea, the Liguria coastline to be precise. Before the descent to the coast a final tough climb over the Cima Tramontina.

Day 9 Departure.

Difficulty: This is a level 3 tour with walks up to around the 5-8 hours.

Accommodation: Mid level hotels, guest houses and farmhouses.
