Hooking on Cycling and Walking

France - Lot Valley Dream

Welcome to Hooked on Walking and our walking holidays in France. This particular walking holiday is in the Lot Valley region of France. The Lot Valley is less well known than the Dordogne, the neighbouring department of the Lot offers a region less crowded but as equally beautiful. The cliff lined valleys of the Cele and Lot were seemingly created to discover on foot. The area is a walker’s paradise. The region is renowned for its medieval sites, picturesque villages and stunning countryside. Our walk incorporates all of this and more.

Lot Valley Walking

Available daily April to October
Level 2-3 self guided tour.

Day 1 Arrival to Figeac
The tour begins in the historic town of  Figeac. Straddling the Cele River, Figeac is a beautiful town with an unspoilt medieLot Valley Walkingval centre. Take time to explore before setting out on your walk through the Quercy countryside.

Day 2 Espagnac Ste Eulalie 6.5 miles 10.5km 300m up/down
Today you transfer to the pretty village of Beduer from where the walk will begin. Heading south west and passing through glorious, seemingly deserted countryside. The next few days will be spent walking along the Cele Valley. Todays destination is Espagnac Ste Eulalie, via the village of Corn.

Day 3 Marcilhac 15km 9.5 miles 600m up/down
Having explored Espagnac, set off for Marcilhac. Walking through fairly rugged terrain, beneath the overhanging Chateau Anglais and via the village of St Sulpice you will arrive at your accommodation just before Marcilhac.

Day 4 Cabrerets 21.2km 13.25 miles 500m up/down
One of the tours longer days, you will follow the Cele Valley to the pretty village of Cabrerets, situated at the confluence of the rivers Cele and Lot. Passing through Sauliac, and with the opportunity to visit the Musee de Cazals. The footpath follows the escarpment bordering the valley, enjoy exceptional views.

Day 5 St Cirq La Popie 12.1km 7.6 miles 350m
Leave Cabrerets for the beautiful village of St Cirq La Popie which appears to defy gravity as it hangs to the cliffs that tower over the River Lot. The walk is fairly short but this gives you the opportunity to visit the world famous cave drawings at Pech Merle shortly after leaving Cabrerets, and time to explore St Cirq La Popie later in the day.

Day 6 Vers 20.5km 12.8 miles 220m uo/down
Now into the Lot Valley. Walking alongside the elegant River Lot today’s destination is Vers. Much of  the walk today is through deserted countryside. Today also provides the tours longest incline, a hill in excess of 2kms.
